By November 01, 2011
on
Made of aluminum, stainless steel, plastic, and rubber, the compact machine was Potash’s final project at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, from which he graduated. After noticing that most sewing machines are relatively old-fashioned in that they are cumbersome and difficult to thread, he decided to streamline the design to be more compatible with the way people use them today...

This one is very well done.

Unless you're in the rather strange habit of going to stores, trying on clothes, and returning home to purchase them online, you never know how they look on you until the package arrives on your doorstep. Last year Fits.me tackled this little niggling e-commerce issue with a shape-shifting male mannequin and finally, after a year of tireless work, the fairer sex has its own FitBot -- turns out the female form is much more difficult to replicate... For two months, Illustrator and cartoonist Jillian Tamaki worked on a very cool project with Penguin Classics. She hand embroidered three literary classics in her signature style! (The covers actually wrap around and include french flaps.) To really understand the level of detail and the amount of patience this project must have required, check out the making-of photos on her blog. Called the Penguin Threads project, these three books will be available in October 2011 not as embroidered works of art but as "beautifully produced" books that will be "printed with a sculptural-embossing technique that will emphasize the stitches," Tamaki says.
